Ahmedabad, Nov 04: Situation in communal trouble-hit Viramgam of Ahmedabad rural district remained peaceful overnight even as curfew remains imposed in the entire town today.
"No untoward incident was reported overnight and officials are considering to extend curfew relaxation timings depending on the situation," Ahmedabad District Collector Anita Karwal told news agencies here.
Pointing out that curfew was relaxed yesterday between 2 and 3.30 pm for women only for making purchases of essential items, Karwal said, "today we are considering if the timings could be extended. But that would depend on the situation in the town till 1 pm".
Meanwhile, in-charge Superintendent of Police (Ahmedabad rural) I D Upadhyay said the accused persons would be produced before the court for police remand later in the day.
Curfew was imposed in the trouble-hit town on Sunday after members of the two communities clashed and three youths were killed.
Police arrested 24 persons including ex-municipal councillor Purshottam Jadhav who allegedly shot at a mob from a close range with his licenced 12 bore gun.
Nearly a dozen shops were torched and ransacked by the mob during communal violence that was reportedly triggered when a cricket ball went into a temple and stirred trouble between both the communities in Chand Fadi area of the town.
