Bangalore, July 05: Attacking the Karnataka government for food poisoning cases in schools under its midday meal scheme, 'akshara dasoha', the BJP today targetted primary and secondary Education Minister B K Chandrashekhar, demanding that he quit office owning "moral responsibility". Speaking to reporters here, party deputy leader in the assembly Suresh Kumar said considering "sensitiveness of the issue", Chandrashekhar should quit to "send a proper message" to the people.
He charged that the government had not taken care about the quality of food served under the "akshara dasoha" scheme. Over 600 children took ill after eating the food served under the scheme in Dharwad, Gadag and Mandya districts in the last two days.
Suresh Kumar said only 20,670 centres had been started as against the intended 30,375 centre. He said the government should also take action against officials who were responsible for the incidents.
Suresh Kumar said steps should be taken to overcome the shortcomings in the scheme, but the incidents should not be used to stop it. Bureau Report
