New Delhi, May 19: Samajwadi Party today said its ally Rashtriya Lok Dal was free to take a decision on joining the government and the two parties would soon be holding talks on the matter.
"Rashtriya Lok Dal is a free party. It can take its decision on joining the government on its own. We cannot impose our decisions on them," Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh told reporters here.
He said the two parties, which together fought the Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh, would soon hold talks on the issue as they had together decided to toe the line of the Left Front in the present political situation.
"We will soon have a meeting with Ajit Singh. He is a senior leader with a national stature. We cannot influence his decisions," Singh added.
Samajwadi Party won 37 seats in the general elections in Uttar Pradesh while RLD secured three seats.
