Mumbai, Sept 10: Finally back in Mumbai from New York after a long break really tends to open one’s eyes and makes one take a deep breath. Tonnes of them actually. One has got to be away from the city for a long enough period to realise how sad the party scene in our city is.
Be it the same old places (which are starting to look real grubby) the same old people (even shoppers at Wall Mart dress and look better) the same old 1.30 am deadline, the same old SMS’s conning you about some phiranghi DJ in the house, the same old Bollywood stars or the same old VJ’s. The fact is that we in India have come to thrive on mediocrity, which unfortunately we find very cool and hip. It’s a shame. But it’s the truth and the very fact that I belong to this pack is even sadder. Hey, but what the hell, life goes on. At times I wish the partying scene in India, which is constant, would change. But no such luck.
The whole country is buzzing with news from the the ongoing fashion week, so that’s one area I ain’t gonna get into. Who sat in which row, who wore what. Pleeeze, let’s come to grips with reality. There are just a few genuine celebs and designers who cut it real good when it comes to walking their talk. The others, a majority of them are always gonna be wannabees and never gonnabees.
Basically a pretentious lot. Then again, what’s new? Wish they would cut their coat according to their cloth! Here’s my take on the men and women who will stand far from the maddening crowd be it in the form of designers or celebs or hosts of lavish parties. As always there will be Rohit Bal, Tarun Tahiliani, Aki Narula, Rocky S, Raghavendra Rathore, Sabyasachi, Manish Arora, Ritu Kumar, Manisha Jaising, Puja Nayar, Gautam Singhania, Queenie Singh, Anju Taraporawalla, Rhea Pillai, Shobhaa Dé and Parmeshwar Godrej.

With CAS also in the news, I thought I’d shift my focus for some entertainment to the telly. And I wasn’t disappointed.

Channel [V] Popstars is back and around. Again sponsored by coke, but this time round without any fizz. Very very thanda. Even the judges and the VJ who decide the fate of hundreds of hopefuls are a wasted and wannabe lot. How qualified are these three judges? Sack the entire lot! It’s pathetic, to say the least. Then again, there’s this pretty good show called Channel [V]’s Goddess of the Month. Caught a glimpse of Katrina Kaif looking pretty hot. She’s shed tonnes of weight since I last saw her a month and a half ago, and is all set to rock the boat. Back to the show. Pretty cool. Only wish they would show more of the goddess and less of the male VJ’s. Actually it wouldn’t be a bad idea to dump their VJ’s on location each time they go out on an out door shoot.

Anusha, the MTV girl has got most of her moves right and kind of sizzled in an item number in Mumbai Matinee. Only wish she would have paid more attention to her make-up. John Abraham looks pretty cool in Saaya and so does Fardeen Khan in his soon to be released flick. About time Bollywood got some real good-looking men in the industry with worked out bodies. Coming to the women, well the zingy Zinta girl still holds her own. She’s always on the go and will be off to the USA for two months shooting for director Nikhil Adwani’s film produced by Karan Johar opposite Shah Rukh Khan. Even though she’s away from Mumbai her family and pets are always on her mind. Currently Junior, her pet boxer dog needs a girl friend. Any takers?
