Srinagar, May 31: Congress president Sonia Gandhi today apologised on behalf of her party workers who had breached the ban on use of polythene in Jammu and Kashmir by putting up buntings made of the material to welcome her for the party chief ministers' conclave here.
"I am very sorry ... I am very distressed (that) in
enthusiasm the workers have breached the ban on use of
polythene," Gandhi said in reply to a question at a press
conference here.
She said she had asked the party workers to remove all the "offending" material and destroy it.
Effective May one, the J&K government had banned use of polythene in the state in an effort to prevent contamination of environment and the local media had highlighted the breach by Congress workers.
