New Delhi, May 12: Shambhu Shrivastwa, who joined Congress a year back after leaving Samata Party, today resigned from Congress and dropped enough hints that his home-coming was almost certain. "Having been in Congress for one year, I have come to the firm conclusion that Congress is a party of non-political money makers and pleasure seekers," he told a news agency. "The party (Congress) has no commitment to secularism and uses secularism as a passport to power," he added. The former Samata Party General Secretary said "I don't think Congress has any chance of coming to power, but in case they succeed by unholy permutations and combinations, it will be the greatest calamity." Shrivastwa, who is considered close to JD(U) leader George Fernandes, met him this evening but sidestepped questions whether he was returning to the party headed by the Defence Minister.
Shrivastwa, who had met Fernandes on May 10 also, however, made it clear that he had not joined his party. "I have left my personal political future to Fernandes," he said and appealed to "all those who cared for national dignity and honour not to allow congress to come anywhere near power".
