Jammu, Apr 29: Pakistani troops today opened fire and shelled several areas along the line of control and the International Border in Jammu Division without causing any damage. Several mortar shells fired from across the border landed at Kalsian and Jhangar sectors of Rajouri district between 0130 hours and 0600 hours, official sources said.

Indian troops retaliated by firing mortar shells, they said. Exchange of light arms firing was reported between the two sides in Samba and R S Pura sectors along the IB in Jammu district last night, they said.

Pakistani rangers, using light and medium machine guns fired from Papuchak and Bopalpur posts opposite Samba sector and also from Lehri Kalan, opposite R S Pura sector.

The sources said the heavy firing and shelling by Pakistani forces is usually carried out to infiltrate militants into the Valley. Bureau Report
