New Delhi, May 27: In line with its expansion plans, private carrier Air Sahara today announced it had launched 16 new flights last week and was planning more with the induction of two additional 50-seater aircraft and two Boeings in the next few weeks. "We will have five CRJs (50-seater Canadian Regional Jets) by May-end and two Boeing 737-700s in the next few weeks," Air Sahara CEO Uttam Kumar Bose told reporters here, adding the airline was in the process of replacing its Boeings from the regional sectors and introducing CRJs there.
He said 16 new flights had been launched from May 22 in several sectors like Mumbai-Bhubaneshwar-Kolkata, Mumbai- Ranchi-Patna and Kolkata-Chennai and Mumbai-Lucknow, where CRJs were being operated. The carrier had appointed new general sales agents (GSAs) in West Asia and was tying up with airlines there for connecting domestic services.
Stating that the "highly attractive" 'Super Sixer' and 'Sixer' schemes had been reworked to attract customers during summer vacations, he said for the first time in Indian domestic aviation, free travel for a companion was being introduced under a new 'Twin Sixer' scheme. Under this, passengers can purchase 'Twin Sixer' scheme for Rs 46,000 and get companion travel free for each of the six flight coupons.
Other schemes were 'Long Haul' and 'Pan India'. Under the first scheme, six one-way coupons can be purchased for Rs 40,000 and the companion can fly twice, while in the other six one-way coupons can be bought for Rs 58,000 with the traveller getting a business class ticket and an economy class return ticket for companion free of cost, he said, claiming Indian Airlines 'Super Saver' schemes worked out to be costlier than these.
