New Delhi, Jun 01: Dalmia Consumer Care, the FMCG start-up of the Rs 1,200 crore Dalmia Group, will launch a new plant-based formulation which it claims will provide a safer and healthier alternative to tobacco while giving the same satisfaction and mouth feel of tobacco.
Speaking to reporters, Sudershan Banerjee, the company's CEO and managing director said the formulation, for which worldwide patents have already been filed, does not contain any nicotine, tobacco specific ingredients, harmful additives or chemicals.
"We will launch the product called 'Vardaan' early next month either as a cigarette, biri or gutkha or all three. It will be introduced in phases across the country," he said.
"This formulation delivers similar pleasures as tobacco by successfully mimicking its indices without any of its ill effects," Banerjee said adding, the formulation was developed by the company's own research and development centre.
He said the product would be initially launched in Delhi and Mumbai and all state capitals after which it would be introduced in smaller towns and rural areas.

Banerjee, however, declined to disclose details about investments and sales target saying it was a concept product whose success would depend upon the number of regular tobacco consumers who change their preferences.
