New Delhi, Dec 02: The Congress said today while it favoured any type of inquiry into the multi-crore stamp paper scam, it is for the Mumbai High Court, under whose supervision the Special Investigation Team is probing the case, to decide whether it should be handed over to CBI or not as is being demanded in some political quarters.
"The matter (stamp paper scam) is before the Maharashtra
High Court. We are for any type of inquiry into the issue. It
is for the court to decide whether it is in favour of handing
over to CBI for the probe,” party spokesman S Jaipal Reddy
told reporters here.
Asked if the party would also favour a probe into the issue by a Joint Parliamentary Committee, he said the party has always stood for a 'transparent and open-minded" inquiry into this huge scandal.
On the recovery of fake foreign currencies in huge amounts near Nashik, he said it is a big crime and merits a comprehensive probe.
Reddy dismissed suggestions that such scandals were due to failure of the state government headed by the Congress party and these were going to affect the party's prospects in the near future.
