Patna, July 08: Bihar minister for primary education, Ram Chandra Purve today admitted that the state government could spend only Rs 44.62 crore out of the total Rs 107.65 crore provided by the Centre under education for all scheme between 2001-2003. Purve, who was replying to a short notice question by Ramdeo Verma (CPI-M) in the assembly, denied allegations by the MLA that the state government had spent only Rs 80 crore of the Rs 400 crore provided by the Centre under the scheme during 2002-03.
The Centre had in fact cleared Rs 3,596 crore for the scheme to be implemented in phases during the Tenth Five Year plan (2002-2007), he said.
A Rs 856.09 crore project was submitted by the state government to the Centre under the scheme to cover all the 37 districts during the current financial year against which Rs 764.76 crore was sanctioned, he said.
The government was committed to provide education to all and for this end 3,606 new primary schools were proposed to be set up during the plan period to provide basic education to all in Bihar, he added. Bureau Report
