Jammu, Sept 02: Four cops were injured in a fierce gunbattle between holed up militants and police in Kathua district today, official sources said. The gunbattle took place at 1530 hours in Ghati area after police cordoned off a group of seven heavily armed militants, who had infiltrated from across the International Border (IB) in Kathua district, the sources told here.
In the exchange of fire which was still on, four cops were injured, the sources said
"The group of seven militants are holed up in cordon," they said adding the militants had been pushed into this side and tasked to execute fidayeen attacks and terror strikes in retaliation of the killing of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) operational chief, Gazi Baba in Srinagar on Sunday.
The group, guided by an over ground worker (OGW) after infiltrating into this side, abducted Sarpanch Divender Khajuria of border village Dhanwa and took him along last night.
But Khajuria, who was forcibly dressed in combat uniform, managed to escape under the cover of heavy rains and flash floods in a nallah which the militants were trying to cross and reported the matter in Rajbagh police station, the sources said.
Police immediately launched a search operation which resulted in the gunbattle late this afternoon, they added. Bureau Report
