24-hour Assam bandh begins amidst tight security
Guwahati, Nov 17: Normal life in Assam came to a standstill as the 24-hour state-wide bandh called by the All Assam Students` Union (AASU) began this morning amidst tightsecurity.

Road blocks had been set up by students in several parts
of the state blocking vehicular traffic and preventing people
from reaching airports, railway stations and other areas,
official sources said.
There had been no report of any untoward incidents so far and security personnel were maintaining a strict vigil in sensitive parts of the state.
All shops, educational institutions and commercial establishments were closed while attendance in government offices and other organisations were thin although the state government has directed concerned authorities to ensure that all government offices function normally.
The bandh had been called in protest against the assault of Assamese train passengers in Bihar and was being supported by several parties and organisations including AGP, BJP, All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), North East Students` Organisation (NESO) amongst others.
In Guwahati, road blocks had been set up in the Guwahati University area which leads to the Lokopriyo Gopinath Bordoloi international airport holding up people headed to catch flights.
