Bhopal, Aug 02: The states have favoured central funding for the ambitious project of interlinking rivers in the country initiated by the centre recently, former union minister Suresh Prabhu said here today. "States want the project to be funded by the centre on the line of the national road projects being implemented in the country," Prabhu, also the chairman of the task force for interlinking rivers, told the reporters at the BJP office.
Prabhu was here to meet Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh to discuss the project and also to take part in a meeting organised by Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha. He said that the task force is adopting a scientific approach on implementing the project. Various agencies were asked to conduct study on effects of the project on three important aspects, ecological, wildlife and forest. The National Environment Engineering Research Institute (NEERI), Nagpur and Forest Research Institute (FRI), Dehradun were asked to prepare a detailed report on these aspects.
Similarly, the task force has asked the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to prepare a three dimensional report on the project by using satellite imagery techniques and services of hydrology experts to showcase how the project will look like after the completion, specially when the rivers are interlinked.
