Dementieva, a one-time US Open semifinalist, dominated the match from the start, immediately breaking top seeded Rubin's serve for a 1-0 lead.
Dementieva served to love in the second game, helped by the first of dozens of unforced errors from the American, who was playing for her third WTA final of the year.
Dementieva broke again to make it 5-2, gradually increasing the pressure on the world no. 10 with flashing service returns and passing shots. She only dropped four service points in the first set.

Hopes of a comeback in the second set were dashed when Rubin again lost her opening service game, thanks to a lob from Dementieva that landed on the baseline to make it 15-30, and a net ball that just bobbled over the cord to win the game.

Dementieva needed no more luck from then on and quickly surged to a 3-0 lead. Rubin staged a brief fight back to make it 3-1, but Dementieva never allowed her the upperhand, playing some the best tennis of the tournament to reel of the next three games.
