New Delhi, Oct 18: Dismissing reports that it shot off a letter to Reliance recently asking the company to clarify its position on restricting WLL services to local area, the communications ministry said today it is examining the "pros and cons" of how to enforce limited mobility within a Short Distance Charging Area (SDCA). "No letter has gone to reliance yet... We are examining all the pros and cons of how to enforce limited mobility within local area (SDCA)," department of telecom secretary Vinod Vaish told reporters on the sidelines of an it summit organised by Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management.

The department had written to all basic telecom operators late last month asking them to spell out steps taken to limit the mobility of Wireless in Local Loop (WLL) services, Vaish said, adding replies of operators were now being examined by the Group of Ministers on Telecom.

Under the GoM scanner are services such as call forwarding and multiple registration system, he said adding that the next meeting of the group slated for October 30 would discuss unification of licences and the WLL issue.

In its last meeting on Sunday, the group decided to enforce the ruling of TDSAT, the telecom tribunal, that WLL services be limited to SDCA with Communications Minister Arun Shourie saying all necessary step would be taken in this regard.
