Karachi, Dec 30: Pakistani authorities today appealed for public help in capturing the country's 40 most wanted fugitives, including four men wanted over the slaying of Wall Street journal reported Daniel Pearl. “Maintenance of law and order and protection of life, honor and property of people is the prime responsibility of the government, and it will leave no stone unturned to catch the terrorists,'' said Aftab Shaikh, provincial adviser on home affairs.

The men are wanted over a series of killings of religious leaders and attacks against foreigners and minority Christians across the country in the recent years.

Among those wanted is Saud Memon, who owned the shack where pearl was held and later killed after being kidnapped. Amjad Hussain, Abdul Samad and Hashim Qadeer are also wanted over his death.
Pearl, 38, disappeared on Jan. 23, 2002, in Karachi while working on a story on Islamic militants. Four weeks later, a videotape was sent to the US Embassy, showing Pearl being killed.

A Pakistani court last year convicted four militants, including Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, a British citizen, for their role in kidnapping of Pearl.

Sheikh was sentenced to death and three other militants-Fahad Naseem, Salman Saqib and Sheikh Mohammed Adeel -were given life sentences. All four have filed appeals.
