New Delhi, Nov 19: There is no need for sending
additional security reinforcements to Assam "at this juncture"
as the state government is doing well to control the
situation, Union Home Secretary N Gopalaswami said today.
"At this juncture, they are doing an excellent job. There
is no need (to send more forces)," he told.
Gopalaswami said indefinite curfew had been clamped in the worst-hit Tinsukia district and "things seem to be on the mend. Assam government seems to be doing an excellent job controlling it".
He said the Centre was monitoring the situation constantly and it would have to be seen if anything more was required. As a violent backlash over the recent assault on Assamese train passengers, left 25 Biharis dead, including four gunned down by Ulfa insurgents, army was called out to control the situation.
