Dehra Dun, Nov 09: A series of functions today marked the third anniversary of formation of Uttaranchal with Chief Minister N D Tiwari seeking people's support in transforming the state into a dream destination for tourists and reaffirmed his commitment to fight corruption and other social evils. However, opposition political parties and social organizations boycotted these functions protesting against the state government's "failure" to meet the aspirations of the people.
Governor Sudershan Agarwal took salute and reviewed parade with contingents of police and para military forces marching in files to give him salute at the main function held at police lines here. He also gave away the President's police medals to some police officers including DIG Anil Raturi for their meritorious services. Earlier in the morning, Chief Minister N D Tiwari inaugurated memorial of martyrs, who sacrificed their lives for the struggle of the formation of Uttaranchal during the 1990s.
In a critical remark against the government, leader of the opposition Bhagat Singh Koshiyari blamed Tiwari for usurping infighting in the ruling party which he said was becoming a stumbling block in economic and social development of the state.
Several women groups under the banner of Uttarakhand Sanyukta Sangharsh Morcha organised a rally denouncing government's inaction in fulfilling the aspirations of the people. Bureau Report
