New Delhi, July 02: Questioning the very locus standi of Muslim Personal Law Board to enter into any "negotiation or compromise" with Kanchi Shankaracharya over the Babri Masjid issue, a prominent Muslim body today announced a proposal to create a separate "purely religious" board to solve the dispute. "Muslim Personal Law Board was formed to safeguard and define the Muslim personal law only and resolution of the religious disputes involving masjids is not within the purview of the board," All India Ittehad-e-Millate Council president M Tauqeer Raza Khan told reporters here.
Requesting Shankaracharya to take back the proposals submitted before MPLB, Khan said, "A separate board namely Darul IFTA Board comprising Ulemmas and other religious dignitaries will be formed within a week having the true authority to resolve the Babri Masjid dispute." Asserting that Babri Masjid imbroglio should preferably be solved through the judicial process, Khan said the current dispute resolution process through "extra judicial means" smacks of some "conspiracy" which Millate will "dig out soon".
"If the government is so eager to resolve the dispute, it should prod the judiciary to expedite the process rather than involving Hindu religious gurus. If at all such religious gurus are to be involved they should talk to religious representatives of Muslims and not MPLB," he said. Khan also lambasted Praveen Togadia for his trishul distribution programme" and asked the government to ban such programmes failing which "the Millate would also distribute trishuls this month throughout the country."
