Gangtok, Mar 15: Former Sikkim chief minister Nar Bahadur Bhandari was today unanimously re-elected president of the Sikkim Sangram Parishad (SSP), the main opposition party in the state, for a second term. Announcing this at the party headquarters here, its returning officer Hemlal Bhandari said that the other two candidates in the fray --Dawa Thamu Tangain and Loden Tshering Bhutia- withdrew their papers on March 13.
He said that the electoral college of 256 party members including three representatives from each of the 32 assembly constituencies took part in the election.
Bhandari, the founder president of the party, was also twice the chief minister of the state.
Later talking to mediapersons, Bhandari said that with his re-election as party chief, his responsibilities had increased.
