New Delhi, Sept 15: Embarking on an ambitious project to create another India Gate vista style model in the national capital, the tourism ministry will undertake restoration and conservation of the 42 monumental structures in an integrated manner at tombs of Humayun and Nizamuddin.
Giving details of the project, the Tourism Minister Jagmohan today said while the ministry has been able to get the "Neel Gumbad", one of the monumental structures freed of encroachers and it was also focussing on the conservation work at "Ghalib ki Mazar" and "Urs Mahal".
"There were as many as 300 jhuggis near the Gumbad and when we wanted them to be relocated, the Election Commission raised an objection in view of the coming assembly polls. But after we assured them that they (displaced people) will be given a free transport on the day of the voting. The commission granted permission," he said while talking to a select group of journalists here. However, later the commission said that if the process of resetllement was done before September 15, then the people could get registered in their new areas, the minister said, adding these people have been resettled in Mullarband in South Delhi.
"After the project is completed, the area will provide a fascinating walk like that at India Gate," Jagmohan said.
