New Delhi, Oct 20: Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat today came under opposition scanner over his alleged involvement in the affairs of Rajasthan BJP for the coming elections with Congress asking him to uphold the dignity of the high constitutional office he was occupying. "It is unfortunate that the vice president has not been able to keep himself away from party politics. We urge him to uphold the dignity of the high constitutional office he holds," party spokesman Anand Sharma told reporters.

The attack on Shekhawat came in the wake of media reports that he was taking keen interest in the political affairs in Rajasthan which is slated to go to the polls on December 1.
To a specific question whether congress was fighting the elections in Rajasthan against Vasundhara Raje or Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, the party spokesman parried a direct answer saying "it is for the vice president to remove such doubt".

Asked whether Congress was adversely affected by the development, Sharma said that BJP's position was becoming "so pitiable that they have to depend on the crutches of the vice president."
