Bhopal, June 18: With the toning up and streamlining of tax administration, Madhya Pradesh Commercial Taxes Department has received a record revenue totalling Rs 3265.35 crore, registering an increase of 23 per cent in the revenue collection from commercial taxes during 2002-2003. The increase of Rs 609 crore in revenue receipts from commercial taxes in the state during the period is the highest as compared to the increase recorded by the neighbouring states, an official release said here today.

The revenue of Rs 3265.35 crore collected by the Commercial Taxes Department during the last financial year includes commercial tax, central sales tax and entry tax while the revenue collection from commercial taxes was Rs 2655.89 crore in the state during 2001-2002.

The increase of 23 per cent in the revenue received from commercial taxes in Madhya Pradesh is highest in comparison to Chhattisgarh registering increase of 18.4 per cent, Gujarat 5.5 per cent, Uttar Pradesh 15 per cent, Maharashtra 6.1 per cent and Rajasthan 12 per cent. Bureau Report
