Kolkata, Aug 03: The Salt Lake house of former CBI Joint Director UN Biswas was not a choice by chance for the 'Mr 125' drug cartel that picked out the official's shoulder to fire their nefarious salvo at India. The gangsters who had taken the house on rent had done their home work before setting foot in the City of Joy, Chinese sleuths, in Kolkata to quiz the quartet arrested from Mr Biswas' house, have concluded. The arrest of the four culprits with drug equipment from the ground floor of Mr Biswas' house some time back had shook the nation. The four led by N C Thanga had posed as students from Mizoram. Kolkata figured so highly in his scheme of things that the Chinese druglord Wang alias "Mr 125" had, long before sending Thanga to open shop in Mr Biswas' house, despatched his son Kenny Mah Yong to test the Hooghly waters for a regular base.
"Mr 125" embarked upon his Indian venture only after Yong placed a favourable report after scouting the city for a "considerably long period," the Chinese sleuths told NCB officials. After Yong's reconnaissance mission, Chinese nationals Wen Delong and Chen Falun, a chemist, with three Myanmarese, entered Kolkata. Delong, a hardened drug trafficker, was incarcerated in a US prison in 1997. He regrouped with "Mr 125" soon after his release. A year-and-a-half later, he homed in on Mr Biswas. The felons who had foxed the Indian team with silence, started spilling the beans when the nine-member Chinese National Narcotics Control Commission put them through an "intense interrogation procedure."
The gang was on a mission to create a market for amphetamine stimulants. Chen Felun, an expert in this field, was pressed into service for this purpose and Kolkata was only the first step. The gang had eyes on other Indian cities and Europe.
Though 40-year-old Felun insisted he was in Kolkata on business, officials say, the very fact that "Mr 125" had taken Kolkata directly under his command whereas other key areas like Myanmar were given to be operated by his 'generals', proves how important the City of Joy was for his game plan. Thanga and Baiktha Kima - the most tested aides of the Chinese druglord - were the Indian agents of "Mr 125."
