Hectic security arrangements made for rath yatra in Ahmedabad
Ahmedabad, June 28: With two days to go for the 126th Lord Jagannath rath yatra, police has made hectic security arrangements to avoid any disturbances even as the `peace committees` are holding daily meetings with people of both communities in sensitive areas to ensure there is no friction during the procession.

"Three vehicles, equipped with global positioning system (GPS) would remain along with the chariots and monitoring will be done from the control room," Deputy Commissioner of Police

`Dhaba points' (terrace) have also been set up in sensitive areas like Dariapur and Shahpur, he said. Police is not taking any chances in the wake of the recent spurt of explosions and gunning down of two gangsters, who had planned to disrupt the yatra, police sources said.
Nearly 6,000 jawans of 58 companies of paramilitary forces including Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), State Reserve Police Force (SRPF), Rapid Action Force (RAF), Border Security Force (BSF), Rajasthan Armed Constabulary would be deployed all over the city. Sixteen officials of the Superintendent of Police (SP) rank, 30 Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), 104 police inspectors, 168 police sub-inspectors, 11,000 other policemen and 66 horse-riders too have been roped in from various parts of the state for the annual yatra on July 1.
