New Delhi, Sept 13: Airtel is back on the growth curve in the Gujarat cellular market. Sunil Bharti Mittal, chairman and group managing director, Bharti Enterprises, told reporters that Airtel was all set for a high decibel growth in the Gujarat telecom circle. Airtel, which entered Gujarat circle as a fourth cellular operator, after Hutch, Idea and BSNL, has been a distant fourth since its launch in August last year.
“Problems in getting Central clearances, especially for frequency, coupled with a change in guard at Airtel Gujarat put us behind,” Mittal said.
Mittal said that Airtel has already pumped in Rs 300 crore for its network in Gujarat and clocked over one lakh subscribers. It now hopes to reach the subscriber base of 2.5 lakh cellular users by March next. “We would be pumping in Rs 100 crore and increase our cell sites to over 500 during the coming year,” he added.
