Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 13: Kerala cabinet today once again decided to defer a decision on hike in power tariff and entrusted the state power minister to prepare a comprehensive proposal for power tariff hike and reforms in the sector. Chief Minister A K Antony told reporters that the cabinet did not take a final decision on the power hike though the cabinet had the unanimous opinion that power tariff increase for all sections of consumers was inevitable due to power crisis triggered by monsoon failure.
This was the second time that the cabinet had failed to reach an agreement on the quantum of increase to be made in power rates.
The electricity minister, Kadavoor Shivadasan would also take into consideration the recommendations made by the cabinet sub-committee headed by industries minister PK Kunhalikutty in the matter while preparing final proposals, Antony said.
Antony said Centre has agreed to provide 100 mw power from "unallocated" share to the state to tide over the situation. Bureau Report
