Shillong, Aug 05: BJP will give prominence to local issues of Mizoram in its poll manifesto for the ensuing assembly elections in the state, a senior party leader said here.
Asked if the temple issue would figure in Mizoram polls,
BJP's national vice-president Pyarelal Khandelwal said, "The Ram temple issue is always an issue in India. But state elections are mainly fought on local issues. And there are so many local problems in Mizoram which we will highlight."
Khandelwal said that any alliance with political parties of
Mizoram would be decided after the elections.
Party's in-charge of north-east V Satish would undertake a visit to the state to ascertain the conditions there, he said.
On alleged 'mismanagement' of central funds earmarked for the welfare of tribal people in the north-east, Khandelwal said that it was due to the "incapacity and inefficiency" of the state governments that the funds could not be utilised for the purpose.
The two-day zonal meeting of the saffron party ended here during the day after discussing strategies for the ensuing polls in Mizoram and political developments in Arunachal Pradesh among other issues.
Party's state unit presidents of almost all the north-eastern states attended the meeting.
