New Delhi, May 03: The apex consumer court has issued notices to the Centre, RBI, and the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) to explain what steps they have taken to prevent gold traders from selling impure ornaments as pure. Acting on a petition by Akhil Bhartiya Upbhokta Congress (ABUC) which alleged that gold traders were involved in wide-spread unscrupulous trade in gold ornaments, National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission president Justice M B Shah and member S N Kapoor noted that the charges "required consideration" and asked cabinet secretary, RBI Governor and BIS director general to reply to the same by July 26.
Abuc - a registered consumers' association - alleged that ornament traders cheated consumers by falsely declaring the purity of gold ornaments.
