New Delhi, June 05: The Delhi police on Wednesday extended the ban on the sale of cigarette, pan and aerated drinks in the capital beyond 2300 hrs as the opening of the shops selling these items till late in the night was attracting undesired elements and had the potential to cause riotous situations. In an order, Delhi Police Commissioner R S Gupta said the gathering of a large number of people at these stalls was causing annoyance to the neighbourhood, disturb public tranquillity and cause quarrels.
The order will come into effect from June eleven and will be applicable till August nine. Any person contravening the order shall be punishable under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code, the police chief said. Bureau Report
