Guwahati, Nov 16: The tension between Assamese and Bihari communities is showing no signs of easing with students from Bihar appearing for an exams in Guwahati being beaten up and forced to go back even as extremist outfit Ulfa served an ultimatum to all Hindi-speaking people to leave Assam. The students from Bihar will meet Advani this evening, while the All Assam Students Union has called for a 24-hour bandh on Monday.
Trouble began when students from Bihar appearing for the Railway Recruitment Board exam in Guwahiti were beaten. Within hours of this incident, mobs in Bihar attacked trains coming from Assam.
Early yesterday, five hutments belonging to Hindi-speaking people were torched near Gauhati University even as the Ulfa served an ultimatum to all Hindi-speaking people in the state to leave immediately. Now, even the National Democratic Front of Bodoland has joined Ulfa`s call.
Meanwhile, students from Bihar will meet Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani this evening and present their case to him. Union Railway Minister Nitish Kumar has, however, assured students that those who missed the exam will be allowed to take it on a later date. Bureau Report
