Lucknow, Jan 19: Expressing resentment over being sidelined by the Uttar Pradesh government in policy decisions, Congress, which is extending outside support to the former, today issued a 'warning' to the government to mend its ways and said that it would observe a state-wide 'Chetavani Diwas' (warning day) tomorrow. Demanding that the decision to disband nine districts and four divisions be reconsidered by the state government, Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee president Jagdambika Pal said the government did not consult Congress before taking the decision.

"There is no rationale behind disbanding Noida but retaining Baghpat and Kannauj", he said while talking to reporters here.

"The Mulayam Singh-led government has not fulfilled its promises to the people on clearing the cane dues, supply of power in the rural areas, law and order as well as secularism," Pal said.

The party had extended support to Yadav with the hope that it would address the issues confronting the farmers and other sections of the society "but it was unfortunate that the promises had not been fulfilled," the UPCC president said. The sugar mills still owed a whopping Rs 59 crore to the cane farmers, he pointed out.

The party would hold demonstrations at all district headquarters tomorrow as part of 'Chetavani Diwas'.
