Jammu, Mar 11: The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today said if the National Hydel Power Corporation (NHPC) was reluctant in taking up the hydro electric projects transferred to it, the state government would explore the possibility of taking up these projects with institutional funding or private investment.
Speaking in the state assembly on a question related to the delay by NHPC in taking up the Kishanganga Hydel Power Project, Sayeed said the central electricity authority is examining the commercial viability of the proposed Kishanganga Power project.
The Chief Minister said Rs 14.32 crore have been spent on the project prior to its transfer to NHPC.
The project has an installed capacity to generate 330 mw of electricity, he said.
The other projects handed over to NHPC include 1020 mw Barsar Power Project, 280 mw Uri II and 220 mw sewa power projects, he said, adding that none of these projects have so far been taken up for execution.
He said the government would take up the matter with the Centre and seek funds from other financing agencies if NHPC is not interested in executing these projects.
Earlier, replying to the main question, the minister of state for power Javed Mustafa Mir said that Kishanganga Hydel Project located in Gurez, Bandipora has been transferred to NHPC. Bureau Report
