Stanchart plans to widen local presence
Bangalore, June 25: The 150-year old Standard Chartered Bank plans to significantly ramp up its presence in India. Besides opening more branches, Scope International, the Chennai-based BPO subsidiary of the UK-based parent is expected to increase headcount to over 3,200 persons before the end of this calendar. The bank is desirous of expanding its scale of operations in new economy areas like IT, telecom, infrastructure and healthcare.

The bank is desirous of expanding its scale of operations in new economy areas like IT, telecom, infrastructure and healthcare.
“The facility in Chennai currently does work for Standard Chartered operations spread over 37 countries. The facility in Kuala Lumpur has a head count of 850 persons and serves as a back-up for the Chennai operations,” said Christopher Low, CEO, Standard Chartered (India region).
