Washington, Apr 03: US and British warplanes flew 900 strike missions yesterday, two thirds of them against republican guard divisions that were pummeled in fighting south of Baghdad, a US defence official said today.
"Two thirds of the 900 strike sorties were against the destroyed medina, the Baghdad and Hammurabi divisions," said the official, who asked not to be identified. "The other third were attacks in support of coalition ground forces in southwestern and northern Iraq," the official said.
US-British forces flew a total of 1,900 sorties yesterday including air refueling, reconnaissance and transport missions as well as the strike sorties, the official said.
