One SAD worker killed, over 9 injured in police lathicharge
Ropar, Dec 01: A Shiromani Akali Dal worker was killed and over nine of them, including three women, were injured in police lathicharge in separate incidents when they were on way to Ropar district court here where former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal appeared in connection with a disproportionate assets case.

The SAD worker was killed at Kurali on Chandigarh-Ropar highway in the lathicharge, official sources said, adding six injured workers were also rushed to a hospital. The victim and others were part of a procession being led by Sukhbir Singh Badal, Rajya Sabha MP and son of the sad chief, they said.
Three women workers of the Dal were injured at Anandpur Sahib as they tried to cross the barricades and were stopped by police, the sources said. They were being led by former SGPC president Jagir Kaur, who was later arrested outside the railway station here along with 100 supporters.
In another incident, some activists received minor injuries after a lathicharge at Bhatta Sahib Gurdwara on the outskirts of Ropar, they added.
Police has made tight security arrangements and deployed additional security personnel to enforce prohibitory orders.
