Kochi, June 21: Kerala PCC President K Muraleedharan
today said a sitting judge of the Kerala High Court should be
appointed to probe last month's Marad carnage, which claimed
nine lives, instead of a CBI investigation as demanded by BJP.
Inquiry by CBI, which is a central agency, will not be
impartial, Muraleedharan told reporters here.
Muraleedharan alleged that the activists of National Democratic Front and CPI(M) were involved in the violence and only a judicial inquiry would unravel the truth.
On the controversial mineral sand mining project, he said the project will be implemented only on the basis of the expert committee's recommendations even if the environment ministry gives clearance to the project.
The Congress was prepared to form a 'wide secular front' with the CPI(M) if it gives up its "Stalinist" approach, he said, adding the party did not consider CPI(M) "untouchable."
But Congress would like to maintain distance with the BJP, he added. Bureau Report
