Valencia, Feb 03: Mercedes McLaren drivers talk about their chances for 2004 in new car system.scripts.
With the start of the new Formula One season only a few weeks away and the McLaren Mercedes team has been busy testing its 2004 championship challenger the MP4-19. In his last year with the team, David Coulthard, 32, says : " Obviously we had the car out running in December, which clearly gives us a bit more time to get the miles on the engine, obviously we've got the one engine rule for the Grand Prix weekend. It puts a lot of pressure on Mercedes to generate the power and get the reliability and obviously from our point of view we're trying to make the car as fast and reliable as possible." . Coulthard, who freely admits that the new single-lap qualifying last year was his weak point added : " We don't really know how the new regulations are going to affect the weekend until we get to the Grand Prix, but in theory it makes Friday a much quieter day because there's no qualifying at all, Saturday we have two attempts within the space of an hour or so hopefully that will work well for the team."
The Scotsman illustrated his new determination when he shattered his own winer lap record by four-tenths of a second in last weekend's private Mclaren test in Valencia.
