New Delhi, Dec 03: A DMK parliamentary delegation today petitioned Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee against the "illegal intervention" of the Jayalalithaa government in Tamil Nadu to "subvert" the cases pending against her. The delegation led by R Shanmugasundaram, Rajya Sabha MP, also handed over a letter written by DMK president M Karunanidhi to Vajpayee drawing Centre's attention on the issue.

Shanmugasundaram said the DMK leader had already said that it was a fit case for invoking Article 356 on the state, though the party was opposed to it.

Maintaining that the Supreme Court had clearly indicted the Chief Minister for "circumventing the process of law" in a case, the delegation said there were seven more cases relating to income tax, disproportionate assets and foreign exchange pending against her.

The Prime Minister gave a patient hearing, Shanmugasundaram said. Bureau Report
