Mahanta urges PM to visit flood-hit Assam
Guwahati, July 20: Former Assam chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta today urged Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and his deputy L K Advani to visit the state and take stock of the large scale devastation due to floods.
Guwahati, July 20: Former Assam chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta today urged Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and his deputy L K Advani to visit the state and take stock of the large scale devastation due to floods.
Mahanta, who recently visited the affected districts of Morigaon, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur and Sonitpur, sent letters to both Vajpayee and Advani urging them to sanction immediate relief to the flood victims in view of their miseries.
He said that a financially weak state like Assam could not bear the huge losses caused by devastating floods every year and Centre must come forward to alleviate the sufferings of the people.
He also urged the members of the Asom Gana Parishad to rush relief to the flood victims.
