Jammu, Oct 22: Army troops shot dead a self-styled area commander of Harkat-ul-Jehadi-Islami (HuJI) in Rajouri district of J&K where a jawan died and a BSF inspector was wounded in an ambush last night, official sources said here today. Army troops launched an operation to search for a fortified bunker set up by the HuJI militants in a high altitude mountain belt in Rajouri district last night, the sources said.
A fierce gunbattle ensued in which the area commander of HuJIwas killed on the spot while two other militants escaped, they said.
The operation was still on to track down other militants in the area, the sources said adding a jawan also lost his life.
The HuJI commander has been identified as Abu Nazir of Pakistan, the sources said adding a PIKA gun, an AK rifle and 5 magazines were recovered from him.
Militants fired upon a search party of BSF in Gool area of Udhampur district and injured BSF Inspector Chanderika Prasad, the sources said adding the injured were hospitalised.
