New Delhi, Feb 23: The Election Commission today denied the Centre's request to allow Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani the use of Indian Air Force (IAF) plane while campaigning for the coming general elections.
The EC had received a request from the Centre to allow Advani to avail the use of air force aircraft, a facility extended to the Prime Minister, during the coming Lok Sabha polls.
''The Commission has said existing instructions will continue,'' said Deputy Election Commissioner A N Jha. The specific request was that Advani be allowed to continue to use the IAF aircraft during electioneering without attracting any penalties under the model code of conduct.
Only the Prime Minister is allowed to use IAF aircraft for election tours under the security guidelines governing him.
