Bhopal, Oct 19: Ridiculing attempts to make his bachelorhood a poll issue in Madhya Pradesh, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee today said Congressmen had out of superstition held his marital status responsible for drought in the state in the past few years. "Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and Congress are worried about my bachelorhood. They used to say there was no rainfall because of my bachelorhood but soon afterwards the state was lashed by abundant rainfall", he said launching BJP's election campaign at a `Mahila Shakti Sangam' here.

In a lighter vein, he said people should remember that the President of the country is also a bachelor but should elections be fought on such issues?

"These can be accepted as jokes but it is not proper to encourage superstitions as the country cannot run on the position of stars and planets," Vajpayee added.
