Patna, June 28: With heavy rains lashing several parts of north Bihar since yesterday, swollen rivers have inundated a large number of villages in Sitamarhi, Madhubani, East Champaran and West Champaran districts.
Several major rivers, including the Ganga, Sone, Ghaghra, Gandak, Burhi Gandak, Bagmati, Kamala Balan and Adhvara group of rivers were showing a rising trend at several points along their course with the Adhvara flowing above the danger level
at Kamtaul in Madhubani district, according to a Central Water Commission report.
Vehicular traffic between Sitamarhi and Muzaffarpur has been snapped with swollen Bagmati overtopping the road. Flood water has entered dozens of villages and large tracts of cropped land, official sources said. Scores of villages in East Champaran and West Champaran districts have been flooded by the Burhi Gandak and Tilawe rivers following incessant rains.
Rain-fed Kamala Balan and Adhvara rivers are also wreaking havoc in nearly 20 villages of Madhubani district. Relief department sources said marooned people in the flood-hit districts were being evacuated to safer places and shelters set up by the district authorities.
