New Delhi, Nov 03: Prime Minister Atal Bihari
Vajpayee today said India and Hungary shared a deep commitment
to democracy and the rule of law and both were members of the
international coalition against terror.
Speaking at a banquet in honour of the visiting Hungarian
Prime Minister Peter Medgyessy and his wife, Vajpayee said the
political and economic relations between the two countries
were built on the foundation of scholarship, understanding
and goodwill.
"Hungary is a key partner for India in central Europe. We both share a deep commitment to democracy and the rule of law. We are members in the international coalition against terror. We have a long tradition of defence cooperation," he said.
He said both countries have witnessed rapid and deep-rooted transformations in the last decade. Hungary is now a member of Nato and will shortly become part of an enlarged European Union.
"We welcome this development. It is a tribute to your success in reclaiming your place in Europe's council. We are also happy that we will have another friend in the European Union," he said.
