Hyderabad, Aug 24: Joining cause with the agitation for a separate Telangana state, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has passed a resolution in this regard, according to K Prabhakar Reddy NCP state unit president. "The central working committee of the party met at Delhi under the leadership of Sharad Pawar on Thursday and decided to demand a statehood for Telangana in view of its backwardness and poverty in the region", Reddy told newsmen here today. "The meeting was attended among others by senior political leaders V C Shukla, P A Sangma and Tariq Anwar, and took stock of the prevailing situation in the country", Reddy said.

The meeting discussed strategies for the coming assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Delhi. He said the committee also expressed its "anguish" over `mismanagement' by the Andhra Pradesh government and accused it of "levying taxes exorbitantly and hiking charges of essential services".
