Filmmaker Bhabendranath Saikia passes away
Guwahati, Aug 13: National Award-winning filmmaker and eminent litterateur Dr Bhabendranath Saikia died here today after a prolonged illness.
Guwahati, Aug 13: National Award-winning filmmaker and eminent litterateur Dr Bhabendranath Saikia died here today after a prolonged illness.
He was 71 and is survived by his wife and two daughters.
Saikia, suffering from cancer for the past few years, was admitted to the Guwahati Neurological Research Centre on July 27 following a cardiac arrest. His condition turned critical and he was on dialysis and ventilatory support since July 29, family sources said.
Saikia won Rajat Kamal for all his eight films - Sandhyarag, Anirban, Agnisnaan, Kolahol, Sarothi, Abarton, Itihas and Kalsandhya. He was also a prolific author with several books to his credit and edited the popular Assamese magazine 'Prantik' and children's magazine 'Sonfura'. Bureau Report
