Jammu, Oct 19: Nirmal Singh was today unanimously elected as the state president of BJP in Jammu and Kashmir. Singh, who was acting president of the state BJP, was the only candidate in the fray.

The Central leadership of the bjp had deputed in-charge of the party in the state O P Kohli and Brij Lal Ranwa as Central observers for the election.

Six members of the BJP National Council from the state also were elected today. They are D K Kotwal, Kuldeep Raj Gupta, Bansi Lal Bharti, Sofi Yousuf, Lala Gsshiv Charan and Sonam Paznki.

Kohli said that the process of holding elections for Mandal, morchas and different cells in the state would be conducted in due course of time.

He asked the party workers to remain united to face the challenges being faced by the country and the state.

Kohli said Jammu and Kashmir was faced with the problem of cross-border terrorism which is aided and abetted from across the border. Besides, the people were also facing problems on account of unemployment and under development.
He also alleged that state government was discriminating against Jammu and Ladakh regions.

Union Minister of State for Defence Chaman Lal Gupta and newly elected president Nirmal Singh also spoke on the occasion.
