Imphal, Apr 22: After a violence-hit first phase polling in Manipur, all arrangements were made for the second phase where about 7.40 lakh voters would exercise their franchise to elect their representative from inner Manipur seat on April 26 amid poll boycott call given by militants. Official sources today said security forces have been sent to interior valley area. Patrolling by various Central and state forces has been intensified to intercept movement of armed ultras.


Reports from the valley districts of Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishenpur and Thoubal which from Inner Manipur Lok Sabha seat said that there was no sign of electioneering by any candidate or their supporters in view of the poll boycott call given by separatist United National Liberation Front (UNLF).

About 50 companies of central forces besides the state police and Manipur Rifles would be deployed at the 911 polling stations on the second phase and last polling day on April 26.

Prominent candidates whose fate would be decided in the second phase polling were Th. Chaoba Singh (BJP), T.Meinya Singh (Congress), L. Chandramani Singh (Federal Party of Manipur) and Nara Singh (CPI).
Large-scale violence marred the first phase election in Manipur with four para-military personnel on poll duty killed, three others injured, booths captured, polling officer and polling agents kidnapped and EVMs set ablaze.
